Reflecting on the state of the collection
Share
This all started because I love fountain pens and have collected an unnecessary amount of them!
I recently spent the day in the emergency department of my local hospital, unfortunately as a patient. It was not my favorite day and I hope to not repeat it but I am on the mend and at home. For a couple of days afterwards I was unable to do much of anything for lack of energy but my mind was starting to get restless so I decided to reorganize my fountain pen display. I had been so busy and focused on my work at the shop location that I had forgotten how much I like to use my pens even if it's for nonsense writing. How many times do I really need to write a pens model name and nib size?!?
After cleaning some and writing with them I put them all back away and just marveled at how many beautiful and unique pens I have in my collection. And I realized I really love most of these pens. Some are marvels of construction with interesting materials or workmanship but to me most are beautiful works of art that just happen to be tools I can use everyday.
Which left me wondering...is that OK...loving an object like that, or do I need an intervention?? I have decided it is ok and I don't want to be saved from this affliction.
P.S. For those of you that are curious, I currently have between 35-40 pens inked. People sometimes ask this and I never really knew before...this is the majority of my pens.
