One Book One Coast

One Book One Coast

I love this event so much I have to share it with you!

Last year I became aware of the One Book One Coast Book club through the Seaside Library. Last years book was James by Percival Everett and it is one of my all time favorite books. If you have not read it, I highly recommend you do so.

One Book One Coast is a shared reading experience that includes participants from over 130 library systems across California, Oregon and Washington. From April 1-June 6 the various libraries host community events to read and discuss as well as offering book copies for free or added copies to lend. This years book is the graphic novel They Called Us Enemy by George Takei. Not normally a fan of graphic novels myself I bought a copy anyway(from Beach Books because I love them). I was already familiar with George Takeis childhood experience of being sent to internment camps during WWII and I think the graphic novel does an excellent job of sharing that story in a new way, especially to those who may prefer graphic novels.

This event is excellent and if you are going to read just one book this year this is a great way to do that and be able to participate in discussion and events in your community.

I can't wait for next year!
