Auctions and....wait, this pen IS amazing!

I buy pre owned pens from auctions to sell on this site as well as to add to my personal collection. Over the past year ( just the time I have been buying at auction) the prices have steadily increased. I don't know if that's an indicator of an increase in the hobby of collecting or if its just a supply and demand thing. I "attend" auctions online so I am wholly reliant on the description from the auction house for determining how much I am willing to bid for any item. Last year I was quite disappointed when a Montblanc Hemingway fountain pen arrived in a moldy box stinking of cigarette smoke. That was certainly not in the description! Luckily, that one was for me and the pen writes beautifully. I got a good price on it so I kept the pen and reluctantly threw the box out. That still hurts me just a bit, but I could just not see how I could remedy the situation. At this last auction I saw a Waterman Edson, which I have never seen in person, I just know people are often raving about how wonderful they are and their pricing seems to continue to increase. In the end I did win the pen but did not get a great bargain. It was pretty much fair market pricing. The pen arrived and it has clearly seen a lot of wear but still looks decent. I cleaned it up a bit and inked it to check it out...and oh, my, what a pen! I love a good heavy pen and this one is a solid pen! It writes beautifully! The design is remarkable. I am going to write with it for a month or so...which I do with most of the pre owned pens I buy. I like to check them out and make sure there are no issues with them. The exception being if the pen looks like it had never been inked. In that case I fill with water to make sure it doesn't leak and then let it dry and list it for sale. But...this Edson, well, when it's time to list it for sale I think I may have a hard time letting it go!
